If this is some of your oldest stuff, then wow!

This is a pretty awesome piece. It's quite lengthy, but that's not a prob; just more time to expand on your stuff eh? lol. when I think of this song, it's like a cross between music from donkey kong country and turok- at least, the original turok (i dunno if you ever played turok on the gameboy, but it sounded similar to that bit-grinding that you had goin on). I also like the pseudo-percussion that goes on during the whole course of the song. ultimately, this is a really chill song, one with a lot of layers; if i was making a flash game, or even possibly a movie, this song would be prime fodder lol. really excellent job; i wish i could have half as much pride in my oldest stuff. most of mine was riddled with FL Studio garbage, such that it didn't sound unique. i would still say my stuff sounds generic, and i wish to god i could make something as atmospheric as this.

Hey thanks man :)

If it's any consolation, by late 2005 I'd been using FL and making music for the best part of 3 years already. So while this is old, it's not my very oldest stuff. I would never harm NG with that junk ;)

Also, I was listening to my stuff that was even older than this (~2004) last night and I enjoyed solely for the fact that I could see how far I'd developed in my skills right across the board.

Anyway, thanks for the review and kind words :)
Keep rockin' on!

So...serene...

This is epically awesome. The trumpet is superb, and it just sounds like a cool stroll on the beach. Oh, and those third and fifth intervals with the trumpets are gorgeous. Even the synthesizer sounds as smooth as butter. I can tell that you know your stuff, man. It makes me wanna draw inspiration from it instantaneously (jesus why haven't I submitted anything in this category; look at my name for christ sakes!!! lol)
But really,

I have quite a lot of jazz tracks here, mostly with trumpet, but also with guitar.
Thanx for the review, mark and vote.

dude, sick!

yeah yeah i know what game you're talking about =) surprisingly i only have its sequel lol, but i loved that game. nice cover; the mix is sweet and it's got everything i want our of a punk song, except for lyrics, but there's no way you can do that with a mario theme lol. i swear they should use this song for the next mario game that comes out. anyway, nice job =)

Let's just say, I like strings.

This is absolutely beautiful my friend! For being your first song on this site, it's really really REALLY good. Like, most people's stuff bombshells at first, but this...this is cool. If you keep producing stuff that sounds like this - unique in every manner, nothing that can really be pinpointed to FL Studio or another generic music production software - you will come out on top. I especially like your attention to dynamic contrast; it's extremely artistic. Good job sir!

Aha, knowing me it'll be my second song that'll bombshell ;)

But thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this, I hope I can manage to keep up the standard with the next one.
And yay that it doesn't sound like it come from FL Studio!
I'm glad you like the dynamics--MIDI Velocity is...interesting to work out when you've never used it before. xD Thanks very much again. ^^

Uh.....

Pretty interesting. I'll bet these samples came from DirectWave. Actually, better yet, the Tibetan Flute you can DL from DirectWave from World. FL Studio perk, no? Still, your track was good. It's got a classic vibe. If you rapped to it I could understand more why you categorized it as hip hop lol. But no, seriously, I like what you did with your flute. =) Just be careful not to get too repetitive.

Nope, not from any of those :)
Glad you liked it though. Thanks man

haha nice.

i remember my group covered this song, and would you believe it, our tenor was able to hit that 4th above the lead part! damn, that's high, isn't it? anyway, this is a really good arrangement, and i like how you take care to each individual part of the song; our group just kinda rushed through it, which made it a little less epic. but anyway, i love what you did to it. just one thing that bothered me: the vocal percussionist seemed only to cover the major divisions in the tempo, but i'm not sure if that was him or the mic (at some points it's too soft to be able to tell).

FolegAlmighty responds:

Thanks man! Glad to hear from another vocalist.

It's actually not a group, it's just me layering my vocals. Which, since this was years ago and I was just learning, contributes to some of the weaker points in the song. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Not too shabby my good sir, not too shabby...

Nice remix, my friend. I like the industrial sound of the drums, with that ringy sound to them. It's pretty dark overall, and its ambiance is quite creepy at times. The only reason I give you a 9 is because of the quality of the audio; I understand that the 8MB limit prevents this to a degree, but I would at least recommend bringing up the volume in the lowest and highest frequencies to give it a more stereo sound - something I myself appreciate more. Still, very good; it kept me listening! =)

thanks your useful review ;)

Plen-t of bass my friend...plen-t!

Really different, and the drums' tones are superb. The bass is so righteous it sometimes overpowers everything lol - which really isn't a bad thing (gawd i wonder what it would do to car stereo!). the only complaints i have: albeit that the song is relatively short, it's pretty repetitive. i understand that it's the nature of dnb to be repetitive, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with the main melody. i was hoping the drums would get glitched up a little but it never happened lol. also, that acidy synth you have for the main melody has too much bass in it, adding a dimension of distortion to the beat. this is still i cool jam though bro, don't get me wrong! that bass is worthy of royalty lol

boney-man responds:

"that acidy synth" is meant to be a part of the bass lol. this song wasn't supposed to be melodic.

also, I don't particularly like glitchy drums. i never glitch my drums, sorry :D

glad you enjoyed it though

Really chill

What's interesting about this song is that its got high-end energy coupled with a super easy-going ambiance. The only criticism I have is that its a little bit repetitive, but I understand that your focus was in the intensity of the drums which was, of course, superb (apparently that first guy who reviewed your song didn't read anything you wrote in your comments section). All I can say is, seeing as I haven't submitted anything in about 1.5 years, I've become a little bit inspired by this song.
