Karnivool...

Posted by mr-jazzman - March 31st, 2010

What can I say? Karnivool is the absolute best rock band that I can think of, and I wanted to share them with y'all. Below is a clip from arguably their best song (although every last song they have made sends shivers down my spine in some way, shape, or form). A week ago from posting this, I had the honor of seeing Karnivool perform live, and let me tell you something: If anyone's gonna shape the sound of music for the next decade, it's gonna be these guys. While people have compared them to Tool because of their rhythmic complexity, the fact is that these guys are much heavier than them, and they combine elements from other bands such as Dream Theater and Van Halen - but in the best way possible. Just give these guys a listen, they're phenomenal...and even better live (Ian Kenny, their lead singer, hits every note perfectly live; it's like the CD entered the 3D realm, and their mix has so much bass in it but not enough to destroy your hearing - I actually listened to their live performance without earplugs, felt like I would lose my hearing, but could hear fine afterwards). Moreover, they're not douches; I got an autograph from the lead singer without complaint, and he seemed really down-to-earth (albeit mentally insane while performing lol).

Nice recent NGADM submission. The bass/'reese' used is what synth? Can't say that aye have much experience with dubstep/DnBish synth creation. As far as aye know its just any bass synth with distortion and the speed of an LFO modulated. Any tips, references or direction for me to take in fulfilling mein knowledge in that regard would be super helpful.

Okay, here's what eye'll do for ya man (because this is kinda top-secret, if ya haven't noticed/compared it to other NG dubstep submissions): Eye'll send you an email detailing the process that eye used (because the Youtube tutorials suck for the most part). Eye hope this will help you out, because it's easier than you think (it just takes a HELL of a lot of time, research, and experimentation...that's what eye did for the past two weeks, and that's why mie submission was SOO close to the deadline). Eye hope eye can get ya in the right direction with this; it would be awesome to see mie experimentation blossom into an explosion of awesomeness!
